Description
The Hofstra Service Corps, a student-led initiative that supports surrounding communities through tutoring and volunteer work, continues to grow and diversify its impact across Nassau County. Originally launched in the early 2000s by the Stuart and Nancy Rabinowitz Honors College (RHC) in collaboration with Hofstra’s Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), the program began with a small group of Honors College students volunteering at The Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN), a local soup kitchen in Hempstead. Led by one faculty mentor, students packed and distributed food and goods – a modest beginning that laid the foundation for a long-standing commitment to community service.
